NOM – the marking for Mexico

Most products placed on the Mexican market and/or put into service must comply with mandatory standards to ensure consumer safety, quality, and environmental protection. A local representative in Mexico is mandatory for obtaining the NOM certification.

Is NOM Certification Mandatory in Mexico?

Affixing the NOM marking is mandatory for most product categories, especially for electrical, electronic, and telecommunications products, this marking and certification ensure that products meet national safety and performance standards. While there are limited exemptions based on specific product use, please always check with a regulatory expert to determine if NOM applies to the product.

Certification must be obtained from an accredited laboratory in Mexico or by a laboratory outside of Mexico that is recognized under a mutual recognition agreement.

Product Safety Testing

For product safety testing, products must be evaluated and tested by an accredited laboratory in Mexico, or a laboratory outside of Mexico but recognized under mutual recognition agreement. The testing process ensures that the product complies with the relevant NOM standards applicable to its category, ensuring it meets regulatory and safety compliance before putting into the Mexican market.
